Gutted to be ruled out for AUSX Open due to injury 😔
Unfortunately, I won’t be lining up at the AUSX Open in Melbourne on November 22 after being declared unfit to race. It’s a tough one to accept, but my thumb injury from the Charlotte round of the SMX Championship hasn’t had the time to heal enough to be back at a competitive level.Â
After successful surgery to repair and pin my UCL ligament on September 22, the plan was to be ready in time, but recovery has taken a bit longer than expected. I got back on the bike for the first time on October 29th and felt some discomfort and swelling in my thumb, which made it clear I wasn’t ready to race. I’ve worked hard rehabbing this injury and doing everything possible to make it back in time, so while it’s disappointing to sit out, I know this is the right call for my long-term recovery. The plan is not to rush the recovery and heal my thumb correctly. I’ll continue to train on the bike, however, I won't be on a Supercross track for a couple of weeks.
It’s a massive disappointment because I was really looking forward to racing the AUSX Open alongside friends and being part of what feels like a homecoming event. I also want to respect and thank everyone’s time, effort and investment in making the trip, from booking flights and accommodation to showing up to what will no doubt be another incredible event put on by the AUSX Open team.Â
A big thank you to everyone at AUSX Open for the invitation and understanding. To everyone heading to Melbourne, I hope you enjoy the show. The series has been unreal and fun to watch!
